Must Have Design Trends for 2021

Happy New Year Everyone and I hope you all have a healthy and fun 2021! For me, January is the longest dreariest month of the year so if you’re feeling the post-Christmas come down & unable to fit into your clothes after too many parties and too much food & drink, read on to see how the latest interior design trends can reinvigorate you & brighten up your home.

Like it or not we can’t escape the influence of trends whether it’s high street fashion or the latest interior design looks. Here are my favourites!

Starting with colours, greys will remain the staple of our design plan but this year they’ll be mixed with darker rich hues such as purples, blues and greens. There’ll be lots of lovely earthy colours like soft clay, mushroom, hazelnut, as well as pewter. Muted pastels of pink and lilac mixed with grey will also be popular. Look out for beautiful warm mustards and deep greens as accents, as seen below.

It’s all about statement ceilings in 2021 and here’s how to get the look. This statement ceiling incorporates a warm mustard colour as mentioned above.

Scandanavian designs are still popular but look out for a new minimalist style called “Japandi” an amazing fusion of Scandanavian modern, rustic design & the traditional elegance associated with Janpanese styles. Note the earthy hazelnut tones mentioned above in this image below.

@Italian Bark

You’ll see plenty of curved furniture this year particularly in sofas and chairs but also look out for stylish curved sideboards and coffee tables. In this image you’ll see a tasteful example of pastel pinks mixed with off-whites.

In contrast, check out the curved furniture here in deep jewel tones of velvet. Velvet furniture will be increasingly popular this year.

Considering a kitchen makeover this year? Think bold! Dark kitchens are a must. Mix dark coloured units with off-whites and light greys to create a stunning contrast. If a whole new kitchen installation is off limits for your budget, get creative. Paint your existing doors and install some stylish new handles. You’ll be amazed at how something as easy and cost-effective as this can transform your kitchen so what are you waiting for, go for it!

@Living Etc

Constellations will be all the rage this year so look to the stars for inspiration! Stars and splashes of galactic heaven will be seen in all sorts of places around the home from subtle appearances on crockery & napkins to all out statements on fabric, tiles & walls.

Hot off the fashion runways, fringes are making their way onto our cushions, curtains and even on mirrors & lighting.
